Common Questions
When is the best time to overseed?
Late August through mid-September is ideal in Central Mass. Spring overseeding works but competes with crabgrass pressure and pre-emergent timing.
How often should I water new seed?
Light and frequent — 2–3 short waterings per day for the first 14 days to keep the soil surface damp, then taper to deep, less-frequent watering as roots establish.
Can I mow after overseeding?
Wait until the new grass is at least 3 inches tall — usually 3–4 weeks. Use a sharp blade and bag the first cut.
Do I need to skip pre-emergent the next spring?
Yes — most pre-emergents will block the new seed from establishing further. We coordinate the timing so your weed program and overseeding work together.
